The Craftsmanship Museum in Vista has several hundred model engines on display. There are also many photos of model engines in this on-line museum. However, one question we often get is, "I wonder what that one sounds like?" Unfortunately, we can't fire up the engines on display in the museum expect for the ones we have built for that purpose in our own shop, but the following video links will give you a selection of what a number of model engines of different configurations sound like. Most are links to YouTube videos. Each one you view will also give a number of related links that can lead you on a search of your own. In fact, if there is a particular engine you want to hear that is not listed here, do a search on YouTube. You may get lucky. Also, it you find a good model engine video not listed here, please send the link to mecm@craftsmanshipmuseum.com so it can be included in this list.

It consists of 261 pieces, 220 fasteners and took 1220 hours to complete. Though it runs on compressed air rather than ignition, it is still quite a triumph of miniature model engineering. Rider-Ericsson Sterling pump engine. This propane-fired, 1/4 scale engine is property of the Craftsmanship Museum and can be seen in action by our visitors. It was one of two built by Bill Fowler in 1982 and donated by Les Cade in 2010. There are three versions of the video depending on the file size you care to download: Small WMV (1.9 MB), Large WMV (11.7 MB) and large MPEG1 (14.4 MB).
