This dollhouse scene built by Anita Kirwan is entitled, “Old Cottage Lady’s Shoppe.” The miniature is on loan courtesy of the San Diego Miniature Crafters Association. Looking at the finery in this shop, it’s hard to believe that so much was handmade. It’s difficult to even see such fine details.

The jewelry is handcrafted with very fine jewelry wire and nearly microscopic gems. Anita, along with a handful of other mini-crafters, sat with an expert maker to learn how to hand-twist chains, adding “diamonds” and other semi-precious stones.

If you look closely at the greenery and floral arrangement, you’ll notice that those are also fine wire and enamel. This workmanship is rarely found these days, and it’s a real treasure when you come upon it. Ladies gloves, simple beads, and organza wedding favor bags all found their way into this delightful little shop.
