This metal Stirling walking beam engine was built and donated by Eckhard Fadtke. Stirling engines are external combustion engines that convert heat energy into mechanical energy by cyclically heating and cooling air. The air is exposed to different temperatures, causing it to expand and contract, which drives the piston.
