Like many older tools, this rasp holder was made from solid brass because it was relatively inexpensive and easy to cast. No brand name can be found on this particular tool. A wingnut on the end of a tensioning screw holds the rasp-like wood cutting blade in place. Presumably, it could be tightened further to put a curve in a thinner blade for concave wood removal.

This brass rasp holder is used or woodworking.
