The Neptune AA1 outboard boat motor was manufactured by Muncie Gear Works, Muncie, IN, in 1954. Muncie Gear Works began manufacturing automobile and truck transmissions in 1910 and entered the outboard motor arena in 1930. This 1.7 HP model AA1 is a water-cooled, two-cycle gas burner that measure barely 23-inches tall. The original A1 line of motors began in 1947, but production ceased in 1952 because the company was heavily involved in military parts production during the Korean War. When outboard motor production restarted in 1954, some of the A1 leftovers and only a few AA1 motors were made and sold.
