The Magpie 2-cycle marine engine was designed and built by Gerald Smith, of the UK, circa 1946-1949. Among the many engines produced by Mr. Smith is this ducted fan air-cooled marine engine called the Magpie. It is a 15cc spark ignition engine developed for model boats. It was also available in upright or inverted cylinder without the fan for use in model airplanes. He produced approximately 35 Magpies between 1946 and 1949; most were model airplane engines, but a few were ducted fan cooled and two were water-cooled for boating applications.
