This early model radio-controlled helicopter was built by Dwayne Yates from a kit by a company called Miniature Aircraft. It originally used an Excel .30 engine for power; however, that only provided the bare minimum required for basic performance because of the helicopter’s 6.5-pound weight. Even with the application of full power it was difficult to slow the helicopter down for a smooth landing. This particular model helicopter was modified with the addition of a lengthened tail boom and rotor blades. It also has a larger OS .46 engine with a tuned exhaust pipe for more power. The original kit cost around $1,000 in the 1980s.

This is an Excel .30 R/C model helicopter built from a kit.
