This Associated Hired Man engine used Paul Briesch castings, and was built by Herb Hodapp, of MN, in 2000. The engine is 19”-long, 8”-wide, 9”-high, and weighs 17 lbs. 12 oz. Herb Hodapp was best known for the reproduction model engine (Champion) spark plugs he produced after the original manufacturer’s ceased production. Less known is that he was an engine builder as well. In the early 2000s he produced a half dozen these 1/4 scale Hired Man stationary engines from Paul Briesch castings. It has a bore of 7/8-inch and stroke of 1-inch, burns gasoline (or Coleman) on spark ignition, and there are numerous oilers and grease cups strategically located for proper lubrication.
