After any car model was completely assembled, it was stripped down into individual parts again for painting and chrome plaiting. These are parts from a 1930 4.5 liter Blower Bentley built at 1/15 scale.

Alfa Romeo Engine
On their trip to California in March 2005, Gerald brought along a model of an Alfa Romeo engine that he had made as a gift for Phyllis. It was carried in a beautiful velvet-lined, finger-jointed box. The box is made of a burl wood that’s used to make model dashboards. The fine grain and tight burl of this wood accurately depicts a scale version of the walnut burl used in many vintage cars.

The other side of the engine is shown here. Pewter castings simulate the aluminum used on the real engine. A Euro coin and a US quarter provide scale reference.

A top view of the Alfa engine. Gerald said he built this in about a week. A person making models for a living is under different time constraints than a general hobbyist. Not only must they produce quality work, but they must do so quickly.
