This Stuart 10H horizontal steam engine was built by Laurence McKinley at the age of 12 with the help of family friend and machinist Tommy O’Day. It was built around 1960, and Mr. McKinley donated it to the Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum in honor of his friend and mentor, Mr. O’Day.
The engine is based on a casting kit that was provided by Stuart Models in England for many years. What is unusual about this particular version is that it appears to be a mirror image of all the Stuart 10H engines shown in photos–in other words, it is reversed from the usual layout. Stuart offers a wide variety of engine kits as raw castings, machined castings, or fully assembled engines.
