This unfinished Snow horizontal engine is being built by Pamela Weiss from plans in The Home Shop Machinist. This unique internal combustion engine has a combustion chamber at each end that houses a single cylinder that moves back and forth with spark plugs at each end, so it fires on both ends of the stroke. A single rod is connected to both pistons and drives the large flywheel. The original full-size engines were used in the natural gas fields to drive compressors to compress the natural gas and they were also powered by the same natural gas. Only two of the restored originals still exist in museums. The engine needs only ignition and a cooling tower to be completed.
