This 1/3 scale model Parsell & Weed hit n’ miss engine was made by Ron Schindele, of AZ, in 2018. It measures 13.5-inches long, 5.5-inches wide, and 8-inches tall on the skid. It has a bore of .850-inch, a stroke of 1.312-inches, and weighs about 12 pounds. It is a 4-stroke hit n’ miss with an inertia style governor and burns gasoline vapor on spark ignition. Ron designed his own carburetor with adjustments for the fuel/air mixture for maximum speed control.
The 1/2 horsepower full-size engine became available in 1899 as a ready to run engine or as a kit. Most of the complex machining was eliminated so people with basic machine tools could build their own running engine by hand. About 15 years later, the company introduced a vertical model of the engine though it is believed very few were sold.
