This GIL model airplane engine was manufactured by GIL Manufacturing, Chicago, IL, 1922. The GIL is a 1.18 cu. in. two-cycle model airplane engine produced from 1922 to 1933 by GIL Manufacturing in Chicago. Considered large in its day, it was produced in many variations and crankshaft lengths. The engine was supplied with an aluminum propeller that was secured to the crankshaft with a taper pin. The GIL is considered by many to be the first commercially available model airplane engine in the United States. The engine is 9”-long.
