Naturally, the online museum is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our physical museum is now open Monday through Friday, 9 AM–4 PM and the first Saturday of each month from 10 to 3 through December, 2009. There is no charge to visit the museum. On Mondays, Larry Simon is the museum host. Tuesday through Friday and Saturdays the workshop and museum are manned by our master craftsman Tom Boyer. The front door says "Joe Martin Foundation," and that is the regular entrance to both the shop and the museum. It is normally kept locked, but just knock and someone will open up for you. If there is no answer on a weekday, Tom may be upstairs hosting a tour. Please come around to the back (South) side of the building to the main Sherline entrance and someone will escort you to the museum from there.
(Left) Tom Boyer explains how the radiator is being constructed for the current museum machine shop project—a small V4 engine. Visitors can see parts for the engine being constructed. (Right) A display case in the upstairs museum houses a number of engines from the Paul Knapp collection. On top is a display of all metal, cutaway aircraft models made by Young C. Park. Other exhibits include steam, Stirling and gas engines of all kinds, model trains and construction equipment, clocks, model machine tools, miniature guns and more. For a detailed area map from YahooMaps CLICK HERE, or do a search for "3235 Executive Ridge, 92081" in Google maps or MapQuest. The "A" marker on the above map link shows the location of the Museum. It is located in the front portion of the Sherline factory right as you enter from the end of Executive Ridge. If coming via San Marcos Blvd. or Rancho Santa Fe from Hwy 78 note that San Marcos Blvd. changes names to Palomar Airport Road after it crosses Rancho Santa Fe. Note also that Business Park Drive goes north from Palomar Airport Road, but on the south side of the intersection it is called White Sands. We apologize for our local cities' confusing street naming practices.
